Mission Drift: Book Review

Although this book is focused on the Mission of non-profit organizations, specifically those grounded in Christian principles, there is a direct line to any business. Who are you? What do you stand for? How do you maintain that focus, now and in the future?

In addition, many business owners are also philanthropic, giving to charities they believe in, both in time and money. I was very interested to hear some of the well-known charities who are both Mission True and those that are off-Mission. Something I’ll continue to look at as I evaluate the organizations we support.

Not surprisingly, there was a pretty big section on hiring. Character and mission-alignment are just as important, maybe more important than skill and experience. Not only when it comes to ‘mission’ but also as it relates to company culture and ethics, not to mention customer service. Is the focus profitable at all costs, quality at all costs? Hiring definitely impacts these outcomes.

There are some amazing historical figures in this book. I found the history fascinating, too. Recommended! – CMW
