Syscon Celebrates 35 Years!
Syscon, founded in 1986 by Larry and Cathy Wendt, is a leading technology services company serving the construction industry. Our primary office is in Hinsdale, Illinois, with a second office in the Phoenix area, with clients all across the U.S.
How did the business start?
Larry’s dad was a small business owner – a mason contractor in Glen Ellyn. Larry worked in his dad’s shop and the field as a union laborer and bricklayer through high school and college. While Larry was in graduate school for mathematics, following an undergrad in Physics, he interned as a computer programmer. These were the early days when computers were new to small businesses. (IBM introduced the personal computer in 1981.) When a peer of Larry’s dad found out that Larry knew about computers, they called and said, ‘our computer is broken; come fix it.’ Larry and Cathy, already entrepreneurs, added computer services to their company offerings so they could provide computer support to the industry they already knew so well, construction. As the use of computers in construction quickly grew, so did Syscon – to meet the growing demands of tech services, hardware, and software. Cathy and Larry want to thank all their customers and employees for a successful 35-year history!
What does Syscon do?
We provide technology services for small to medium-sized construction companies. This includes network maintenance, server replacements and upgrades, computer maintenance and support, Microsoft 365 migrations and support, along with private and Azure Hosting. We provide remote access, backup disaster recovery, anti-virus and anti-SPAM services – the backbone of any company network.
Those computers are only helpful if they’re running the right software! For over 25 years, we have sold and implemented Sage 100 Contractor, a construction-specific project management solution. We provide back office consulting support such as payroll processing, workflow, and assistance with bookkeeping and controller-specific tasks. As Sage third party developers, we have add-on products for remote field time collection, analytical tools, and we create custom software to bridge with other applications.
