2021-04-07 Day 27

Rest day!

The rides day-to-day are much more encompassing and consuming than I had imagined they would be. My picture of life on the road was that I would ride 4 or 5 hours a day and be bored with the remaining time. So I planned special projects, books, deep thoughts – you get the idea. In reality, here is my typical day:

  • Wake Up
  • Eat
  • Get on the Road
  • Complete Daily Ride
  • Shower
  • Eat
  • Riders Meeting to Plan the Next Day
  • Prep Bike for Next Day
  • Sleep
  • Repeat

The rest days break that routine and give time for physical and mental recovery before the next series of rides. The tour often provides some sort of excursion to a local place of interest on the rest days, but I usually want to rest for the day.

There were massive trees with huge root systems along the river as well.

And some quiet time to enjoy with friends. This is John Schafer and I just sitting by the river and swapping stories – much needed decompression time.
