2021-03-22 Day 11

Today was about 40 miles on exemplary multi-use trails running through Tucson. It was an easy ride on paper, but I was completely beat after completing it. Nonetheless, it was a change in scenery from the past days of desert riding and I’ve never been on a trail like this. It truly was fantastic. It is my understanding that there are many trails like this throughout Tucson, so I think it would be worth a trip of a few days to come down to Tucson and ride them all. Any takers out there?

A number of the riders had never seen various wildlife common out here. In particular, there was a lot of interest in a Road Runner. Finally, today, we saw several along the trail as well as some coyotes. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the wildlife.

One of the fun things about today is that due to the nature of riding on the trail, the group stayed pretty close together. Usually, the riders are spread out over several miles of the route depending on how hard they are riding and when they left the overnight or various rest stops.

Today, with a natural limit to speed imposed by the winding trail and other traffic such as walkers, we tended to be riding as a group.
